HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!
Happy Summer Solstice & Happy Birthday to STAR • MOON • SUN !!!!!!!
Today is not only the birthday of STAR • MOON • SUN but also the Summer Solstice. This is not an accident; I chose this day for her because it is an energy filled day that brings with it light and the knowing of the dark to come. In this way, the Summer Solstice is bittersweet with wisdom. I am hoping the longevity of the day, and the knowing of the shadow will linger as STAR • MOON • SUN launches.
Solstice originates from the Latin roots sol, meaning the sun, and sistere, meaning to stop or station. The Summer Solstice is when the Sun appears to stop at the northern most point, giving us in the northern hemisphere the longest day of our year, and therefore our shortest night. After this, here comes the bittersweetness, the days will begin again to get shorter and the nights longer. Up until now, the days have gotten longer and longer, giving us light and warmth. Just as the moon has its cycles, so does the sun, and as we enter into the waning phase, it is important to honor the Sun and to take into account all that was given during the waxing phase and to look ahead at what is to come next.
As we take in this culminating energy, it is important to have the gratitude for the summer, for the light, and for the warmth. This light, although it may not seem like it quite yet, is fleeting. These long summer days will transform into crisp autumn and eventually into long brisk winter nights.
So take today head on, feel the light and the warmth, and bask in its longevity. Praise the Sun that gives you light, energy, and life.
